PHILADELPHIA -- LaTroy Hawkins nailed down a landmark save -- No. 100 in his long career as a major-league reliever.

The 40-year-old right-hander finished off New York's 4-3 win over Philadelphia on Sunday, striking out Jimmy Rollins to end it and pull the Mets into a tie for third place with the Phillies in the NL East.

"Big milestone. The guy's on his way to 1,000 appearances, hopefully he pitches next year, so those are some huge milestones, so we're happy," Mets manager Terry Collins said.

"You're talking about one of the real veteran, real quality professionals in the game, and that's why it's great to have him here because I think he's helped a lot of people on this team get through some tough times."

Wilfredo Tovar knocked in two runs with a single in the seventh to put the Mets ahead by one with his first major-league hit -- off Cliff Lee no less.

"An infield single, then an 0-2 pitch to the eight-hole hitter that was down and in. I made a good pitch so I have to tip my hat," Lee said. "He hit the pitch I was trying to make."

Carlos Torres (4-5) struck out six in six innings for New York and allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks.

Lee (14-7)gave up three runs, two earned, and eight hits in seven innings. He struck out eight without a walk in Philadelphia's final home game of the season.

Domonic Brown put the Phillies ahead in the sixth with a one-out RBI single that made it 2-1, but the Phillies missed a chance to add on, leaving the bases loaded.

"Offensively it was the same for the whole weekend. Missed opportunities with men on base," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "We couldn't capitalize over the weekend."

After Kevin Frandsen hit an RBI double in the second inning, the Mets' Andrew Brown answered with an RBI groundout in the fourth.

Cody Asche struck out with the tying run on third in the eighth. Philadelphia pulled within one when Carlos Ruiz tagged and scored from third on a foul-ball pop up by Darin Ruf.

The Phillies fell to 18-17 under Sandberg.
