The 2013 MLB draft begins Thursday night. The three-day event will last 40 rounds, with the first two rounds and 73 picks taking place on Thursday. Rounds three through 10 will take place on Friday and the final rounds are Saturday.
The draft order is based on the reverse order of last year's standings, but free agent compensation and two new Competitive Balance Rounds -- small market teams are given extra picks, which can be traded -- change the order quite a bit. Every team will make at least one pick Thursday night and the Yankees lead the way with four selections. They have their own first and second rounders plus picks for losing free agents Nick Swisher and Rafael Soriano. The Nationals will be the last team to make their first pick of the draft after forfeiting their first rounder to sign Soriano.
