Albert Pujols hits DL after re-injuring foot
Angels first baseman/DH Albert Pujols may not be back in the lineup for a while after pulling up lame on Friday night.
Angels 1B/DH Albert Pujols reinjured his troublesome left foot during Friday night's loss to the Athletics and is headed back to Southern California to be re-evaluated. Meanwhile, the Angels placed him on the disabled list Sunday morning.
Pujols has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot for roughly the last decade and had previously indicated that he may undergo offseason surgery. At this point, though, he may not have much of a choice.
This season, the 33-year-old future Hall of Famer owns a solid OPS+ of 116, but he's been in a pattern of decline since 2010. Of course, whenever the topic is Pujols and his downward-trending numbers, there's no escaping this grim reality (grim for the Angels, anyway):
pujols has $217,037,056.80 to go over 8 yrs, 51 games. #goodluck— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) July 27, 2013
While Pujols is out -- and he could be out for quite a while -- the Angels will likely use Mark Trumbo at first base and turn to the bench to fill the other spot, with Brad Hawpe possibly getting primary duty against right-handers. Collin Cowgill will figure in as well.
