Alex Cobb activated from disabled list, to start Thursday night
For the first time since getting hit in the head with a line drive, Rays starter Alex Cobb will return to the big-league mound.
Cobb was diagnosed with a concussion and hasn't pitched in the majors since. That's set to change, however, as the Rays announced Thursday that Cobb has been activated and will start this evening against the Mariners. As a corresponding move, infielder Ryan Roberts was designated for assignment.
Cobb, 25, is 6-2 with a 3.01 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 83 2/3 innings this season. He made two minor-league rehab starts, most recently going 4 1/3 innings (giving up five hits and three earned runs) for the High-A Charlotte Stone Crabs.
