Alex Rodriguez in lineup for ALCS Game 1
Lineups for Game 1 of the ALCS have been announced, and, yes, A-Rod is in there.
Straight from the big board at Yankee Stadium ...
NEW YORK: Alex Rodriguez, as you can see, is in the lineup despite the fact that Tigers starter Doug Fister is a right-hander. A-Rod, of course, struggled badly against the Orioles in the ALDS and Yankees manager Joe Girardi has shown a recent willingness to limit him to platoon-advantaged duties. But there he is, with a fresh series start and all that.
It is worth noting, however, that Rodriguez will be batting in the six hole for the first time in quite a while. In the regular season, he hasn't batted sixth since he was 19 years old. As far as the postseason is concerned, this will be the lowest A-Rod has been slotted since Joe Torre famously batted him eighth in Game 4 of the 2006 ALDS. Earlier in that series, Rodriguez also batted sixth.
On Detroit's side of things, this is pretty much their standard linup versus lefties.
