Angels agree to contract with top pick Newcomb, lefty out of Hartford
Angels first-round pick Sean Newcomb, No. 15 overall, is expected to receive about $2.5 million.
The Angels and first-round pick Sean Newcomb, a left-handed pitcher from the University of Hartford, have an agreement pending a physical. It's just in time as Friday is the deadline for signing draftees.
Newcomb, the No. 15 pick overall, is expected to receive a deal for about $2.5 million or perhaps a little bit over that. The deal is believed to be pending a physical.
The No. 15 pick has a $2.475 million slot value, so it is believed he may get slightly over slot. The Angels could pay Newcomb up to $2,807,500 without losing a subsequent draft choice.
All concerned expect the deal to be finalized by Friday's 5 p.m. ET deadline.
The Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register first suggested Newcomb and the Angels were close to a deal.
