Ramus first sustained the injury Monday and had been hoping that a few days of rest would allow him to avoid be deactivated. This season, Rasmus, age 27, is batting .222/.266/.489 (102 OPS) with nine homers in 37 games. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 103 across parts of six major-league seasons. He's eligible for free agency next offseason.
