UPDATE: X-rays came back negative, but Phillips told the Fox Sports broadcast that he is unlikely to play in the team's season finale on Sunday. He'll instead focus on getting ready for Tuesday's wild-card game.

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips had to exit Saturday afternoon's game in the fifth inning after fouling a pitch off his left leg. Here's a pretty great shot of the welt under his sock:

Phillips, 32, was replaced by a pinch-runner after singling in the at-bat. He came into Saturday's game hitting .259/.308/.395 (91 OPS+) with 18 home runs and 102 RBI in 663 plate appearances.

The Reds have already clinched a wild-card spot, so they can afford to be cautious with one of their most important players. Their weekend series with the Pirates will determine homefield advantage in Tuesday's winner-take-all wild-card game.
