At this writing, Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks has just more than 40 plate appearances on the season. That's unusual for Weeks, who, when healthy, has been a regular for almost his entire career. That said, Weeks hasn't really hit since 2011 and has long been a defensive liability. As a consequence, he's lost playing time to Scooter Gennett.
In an effort to get Weeks more playing time and perhaps jumpstart his bat, the Brewers approached him about manning a new position. Here are the details from Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel ...

Granted this is one side of the story, but this doesn't reflect particularly well on Weeks if this is indeed what happened. Weeks's vesting option for 2015 almost certainly isn't going to kick in, so the 31-year-old is likely headed to the free agent market. Adding some defensive flexibility to his skill-set could've been of benefit, but seemingly Weeks isn't interested.
