Nationals manager Davey Johnson announced outfielder Bryce Harper will "probably be down a few days" after reinjuring his left knee on Sunday. Harper originally hurt the knee crashing into the Dodger Stadium wall on May 13. Twice on Sunday, he favored it while sliding. He was removed from the game following a seventh-inning walk and said afterward that he might have to play with pain and swelling all year.

Harper, 20, is hitting .287/.386/.587 this season after going 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout on Sunday. Washington is already without Jayson Werth, who is on the DL with a hamstring injury. Denard Span, Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore will make up the outfield while Harper and Werth are out.

Meanwhile, the Nats will place left-hander Ross Detwiler on the 15-day DL with an oblique injury. He has been nursing the issue for a while now and was unable to come through a workout session on Sunday. The team has recalled lefty reliever Xavier Cedeno and has yet to name a starter for Detwiler's spot on Tuesday.

Detwiler, 27, is 2-4 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in eight starts this year. He hasn't pitched since May 15 due to the oblique issue. The Nats could turn to veteran right-hander Chris Young for Tuesday's start, but his 7.26 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in six Triple-A games are ugly. Ross Ohlendorf and his 4.83 ERA (1.32 WHIP) might be the better choice.
