Cardinals place Matt Holliday on disabled list
A right hamstring strain has landed Matt Holliday on the DL. The Cardinals will go with Allen Craig in left and Matt Adams at first in his absence.
Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, the club announced Saturday. The move is retroactive to July 12 and first baseman/outfielder Brock Peterson has been called up from Triple-A Memphis as a corresponding move.
Holliday, 33, was pulled from a game in Chicago's Wrigley Field July 11 with the issue and hasn't appeared in a game since. He's hitting .268/.351/.448 with 13 homers and 47 RBI this season.
With Holliday on the shelf, expect the Cardinals to continue to use Allen Craig in left field and Matt Adams at first base. Considering Craig is an All-Star and Adams is hitting .316/.372/.544, this doesn't significantly impact the lineup offensively, but it does harm the defense and depth a bit.
