Cardinals place Tyler Lyons on DL with shoulder strain
The Cardinals are another man down in the rotation, as Tyler Lyons has gone on the 15-day disabled list with a bum left shoulder.
The Cardinals on Tuesday placed left-hander Tyler Lyons on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain. In related moves, the Cardinals also recalled left-hander Sam Freeman and right-hander Jorge Rondon while optioning reliever Eric Fornataro to Triple-A Memphis.
Lyons, who was added to the rotation after Joe Kelly injured his hamstring, has pitched to a 6.12 ERA after four starts and two relief appearances this season. Lyons brought a 3.43 ERA into Monday night's start against the Cubs, but then he gave up nine earned in four innings of work.
He joins fellow starters Kelly and Jaime Garcia on the DL. Kelly still has no clear time-table for his return, but Garcia is probably one more rehab start from being activated (source: Rick Hummel, St. Louis Post-Dispatch).
