Reinforcements are headed to Kansas City for the I-70 Series between the Royals and the Cardinals.

The Cardinals have activated center fielder Jon Jay and infielder-outfielder Matt Carpenter from the disabled list, the team announced. Meanwhile, the Royals are getting catcher Salvador Perez back from the 60-day disabled list.

Carpenter missed 27 games with a strained oblique after starting the season strong with a .288/.356/.519 line along with three home runs. He played six rehab games, getting four hits in 17 at-bats, including three on Thursday when he homered for Double-A Springfield.

The Cardinals optioned outfielder Adron Chambers and first baseman Matt Adams to make room for the pair on the roster.

The Royals' Perez, 22, suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee in March, right after he signed a five-year extension with the team. Perez played in 12 games with Triple-A Omaha on a rehab assignment, hitting .340/.365/.380. Perez hit .331/.361/.473 in 39 games as a rookie for the Royals last season.

The Royals haven't announced the moves to their 25-man and 40-man rosters to make room for Perez.
