Yankees ace CC Sabathia will visit famed physician Dr. James Andrews within 10 days to have his ailing left elbow examined, CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman reports.

In the process of being knocked around in Game 4 of the ALCS, Sabathia struggled with his location and showed diminished velocity. Sabathia's radar readings have been a concern since he returned from a bout of elbow inflammation in late August.

The obvious fear at this point is that Sabathia would require Tommy John surgery. However, Heyman also reports Sabathia is believed to have some kind of elbow spur. While that condition may require surgery, his 2013 season is not in danger at this juncture, Heyman reports. The ligament is reportedly intact, and Sabathia should be ready for spring training.

Sabathia, 32, is coming off a 2012 regular season in which he posted a 3.38 ERA in 200.0 innings. He is signed through 2016 with a vesting option for 2017. At minimum, he's owed $99 million over the remainder of his contract.
