Clayton Kershaw pitching through foot injury
Dodgers mega-ace Clayton Kershaw has been battling a case of plantar fasciitis over the past few days.
Clayton Kershaw's left arm is fine. Please note that. Disclosing an injury to the stellar likes of Kershaw is not unlike calling your spouse to confess that your child has spilled blood on your watch: at the outset you must note that what follows is not as bad as it sounds.
With that necessary disclaimer laid out, it's time to tell you that Kershaw is experiencing a foot problem -- plantar fasciitis, to be precise. Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that Kershaw has been receiving treatment for the condition over the last week or so. Manager Don Mattingly says that Kershaw "doesn't feel it at all," which of course suggests that the maladay isn't affecting the ace on the mound.
However, as Aaron Gleeman of Hardball Talk notes, this is the kind of condition that can linger. It's not reported whether the injury is to Kershaw's drive foot or to his plant foot, and that presumably could have some bearing on how quickly it heals. This doesn't seem to be a cause for panic, but it's certainly a situation that bears monitoring.
