According to SiriusXM host Jim Bowden, free-agent first baseman Corey Hart, during an appearance on Bowden's show, said that his agent has been in contact with the Red Sox, Rays, Rockies and incumbent Brewers, among other teams.
Hart, 31, missed the entire 2013 season after undergoing right knee surgery in January. That was the second time he'd undergone surgery on that same knee -- the first time in March of 2012, albeit a different procedure.
Still, when healthy Hart can hit. Across parts of nine seasons in Milwaukee, the two-time All-Star put up a line of .276/.334/.491 (116 OPS+) and averaged 26 homers and 36 doubles per 162 games played. Over his past three seasons (2010-12, in Hart's case), he has hit .279/.343/.514. While he's been more effective against lefties, his career .798 OPS against right-handed pitching is more than playable.
As for the interested parties, the Brewers would of course love to have him back, and the Rockies and Rays are looking for replacements for Todd Helton and James Loney, respectively. As for the Sox, Hart is probably a backup plan in the event that Mike Napoli signs elsewhere. If healthy, Hart would be a good fit for all, but an AL team, which would be able to DH him on occasion in order to ease up on his knee, might make the most sense.
