A Chicago-area woman who had waited almost literally her entire life to see the Cubs win the World Series passed away shortly after it finally happened. Her name was Mabel Ball and she died on Tuesday, less than a week after finding out the Cubs finally won the World Series for the first time since the year she was born.

Via the Chicago Tribune:

"The cruel irony, the almost unbelievable irony, is that the person who waits and waits and waits, after it happens, says, 'I've done what I've got to do, and I'm out of here,'" her son Rich, 75, of Oak Park, said. "It ain't funny, but it's funny."

The Tribune has the full story, for those interested, but it's not one of a die-hard fan finally seeing what she always wanted to see. Basically, she seems like a casual fan who wasn't overly moved by the victory.

It's a story because Cubs World Series championships bookended the 108 years of here life. In that sense, it's pretty interesting.
