Derek Jeter passes Honus Wagner with 3,431st career hit
Yankees captain Derek Jeter now stands alone in sixth place in baseball history with 3,431 hits.
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter picked up a hit Saturday that wasn't overly impressive, but it was a significant hit nonetheless, because it was number 3,431. He has passed the great Honus Wagner and moved into sixth place on the all-time hits list.
So, yeah, it wasn't exactly the home run that his 3,000th hit was, but it counts.
Here is the all-time hits leaderboard:
1. Pete Rose, 4256
2. Ty Cobb, 4191
3. Hank Aaron, 3771
4. Stan Musial, 3630
5. Tris Speaker, 3515
6. Derek Jeter, 3431
7. Honus Wagner, 3430
8. Carl Yastrzemski, 3419
9. Paul Molitor, 3319
10. Eddie Collins, 3314
The chances Jeter gets hot enough to catch Speaker -- 84 hits in 46 games -- are somewhere between slim and none, so expect this to be the last post we write on Jeter this season (I kid!).
