Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig initially banged up his hip on July 3 in Denver when he made this highlight-worthy snare in the outfield ...
Puig subsequently aggravated the hip last Thursday and then reinjured it on Friday. Both times he was lifted from the game. Puig didn't play Saturday and wasn't in Don Mattingly's lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.
In the bottom of the fifth, though, Mattingly summoned Puig to pinch hit. In his first AB since Friday, Puig delivered with a single through the left side and was later plated by an Adrian Gonzalez base hit. Puig remained in the game in right field and wound up going 1 for 3 without incident in an eventual 3-1 Dodger loss.
Puig will now get four full days off before the Dodgers resume play on the road against the Nationals on Friday.
The 22-year-old Puig is batting .391/.422/.616 with eight homers in 38 games.
