Dustin Pedroia to return to Boston lineup Tuesday
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, after missing the last six games because of a torn thumb muscle, will return the Boston lineup Tuesday night against the Orioles.
As injuries and random acts of an angry god go, the Red Sox haven't had much good news this season, but here's something: Dustin Pedroia is ready to return to the lineup.
WEEI's Rob Bradford reports that Pedroia, who's missed the last six games with a torn thumb muscle, is expected to play Tuesday night against the Orioles in Fenway. Initially, it was feared that Pedroia could miss up to a month with the injury.
On the season, Pedroia, besides providing Gold Glove-caliber defense at the keystone, is hitting a producitve .295/.350/.450 on the season. Long a specialist at banging pitches off the Green Monster, he's also on pace for 42 doubles.
Needless to say, having Pedroia in the lineup is a good thing. With that said, thumb injuries can be tough on hitters, and Pedroia's willingness to play through injury has in the past hurt his production significantly. It will be interesting to see whether he continues hitting as the injury heals on the job.
