Giants minor leaguer Darren Ford OK after head-on collision with wall
Giants minor league outfielder Darren Ford escaped a scary head-on collision with a wall on Thursday night.
Darren Ford, a minor league outfielder with the Giants, appears to have avoided major injury following a scary head-on collision with a wall on Thursday night. As you can see in the following video, Ford was going full speed when he dove for a foul ball:
Brutal. That is as scary as it gets.
According to agent Joshua Kusnick, Ford never lost consciousness and had full movement in his limbs following the accident. He was placed on a stretcher as a precaution, and taken off the field in an ambulance.
Here is more on the aftermath from Josh Jackson of MiLB.com:
Ford suffered a concussion and a neck sprain, but his vitals "seem OK," and he was able to move his legs and feet, according to Fresno manager Bob Mariano. He added that Ford would undergo a CAT scan on his head and a series of X-rays on his back and neck.
Marek Warszawski of the Fresno Bee reported on Friday that Ford was medically cleared to fly with the team back home, which is very good news. Considering how fast he was running when he hit the wall, a concussion and a sore neck is getting off easy.
Ford, 28, is nicknamed "The Bullet" because of his speed, according to Jackson. Ford played 33 games with the Giants from 2010-11, but he has spent the last several years bouncing around Triple-A. He was 7-for-20 (.350) with two stolen bases in eight games before getting hurt.
