GIF: Aroldis Chapman and the perfect slider
As if a triple-digit fastball wasn't enough, Reds closer Aroldis Chapman on Wednesday night threw one of the best sliders that you'll ever see.
On an inning-by-inning basis, Aroldis Chapman might be the most dominant pitcher in the world. The Reds' closer has struck out 28 batters in 18 innings this year and 240 in 153 innings in his career. On Wednesday night, he broke out this slider to strike out Miami's Derek Dietrich to end the game:
Catcher Devin Mesoraco's glove says it all. The pitch looks like a 90-something mile-an-hour fastball headed right for Dietrich's elbow before banging a right about 15 feet in front of the plate. It crosses middle-middle.
I'm sure I've seen a more unhittable pitch at some point over the years, but I can't think of any. That's just filthy.
