In the fifth inning of Game 6 of the World Series between the Cardinals and Red Sox, Boston outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury appeared to be picked off first base. A rundown ensued, though, and Ellsbury's guile, speed and anti-locking braking system served to remind us that the outcome of a rundown is not to be assumed, even at the major-league level. And, no, that was not a particularly close call at the end ... 

Had Cardinal reliever Kevin Siegrist landed his attempted swipe tag, then that would have been a 1-3-4-3-6-1 putout. Instead, it was Game 6 writ small.
