GIF: Mike Napoli's prodigious homer gives Red Sox early lead
Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli got the scoring started in Game 5 of the Red Sox-Tigers ALCS with a 460-foot home run.
The Red Sox drew first blood in Game 5 of the ALCS Thursday with a three-run third inning. To start things off, Boston first baseman Mike Napoli absolutely crushed an Anibal Sanchez pitch well over the center field fence.
Here it is (via @buzzfeedsports):
Notice that center field wall says it's 420 feet away from home plate. Initial estimates from inside Comerica Park pegged the shot at 460 feet.
There were 26 homers this regular season that went at least 460 feet, and Napoli hit three of them, with his furthest homer traveling 472 feet on May 1. With that huge beard and prodigious power, he definitely has a little Paul Bunyan thing going on.
