Indians, aiming to replace Perez, make offer to John Axford
Axford has significant interest elsewhere, as well.
Cleveland is believed to have made an offer to Axford, who himself was nontendered by the Cardinals because of the probability he was due for a significant raise from his $5 million 2013 salary.
The Cubs, Orioles and Mariners are also interested in filling closer holes. Baltimore is believed to be looking at Grant Balfour, and have Axford and Perez as secondary options, but the Cubs may have Axford higher on their list. Axford was a successful and at times dominating closer with the Brewers before being replaced by them, then dealt to the Cardinals.
