Indians place Nick Swisher, David Murphy on disabled list
The Indians are down a pair of lineup regulars, as Nick Swisher and David Murphy are battling knee and abdominal injuries, respectively.
The Indians on Sunday placed first baseman Nick Swisher on the 15-day disabled list with a recurrence of the right knee injury that troubled him earlier in the year. Outfielder David Murphy (abdominal/side injury) joins him on the DL. To take the pair of spots on the active roster, the team has recalled outfielder Tyler Holt and infielder Zach Walters.
This season, Swisher is batting a disappointing .208/.278/.331 in 97 games, while Murphy is hitting .262/.324/.384 in his first season in Cleveland.
Of the two injuries, Swisher's is probably the more concerning. As Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer notes, Swisher will have his knee further examined on Monday.
