Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson, one of the top August waiver trade candidates, will not be moved this month. Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly reports Hellickson was pulled back after being claimed on trade waivers by an unknown team earlier this month.

Here are some more details, from Salisbury:

According to sources, the veteran right-hander was recently claimed on waivers. The Phillies were unable to work out a deal with the claiming team and Hellickson was pulled back, making him ineligible to be traded the remainder of the season.

Hellickson, an impending free agent, is 10-8 with a 3.80 ERA (111 ERA+) in 26 starts and 154 innings so far this season. This is easily his best year since his heyday with the Rays from 2010-12. Hellickson had a 4.86 ERA (81 ERA+) in 383 2/3 innings from 2013-15.

There was trade interest in Hellickson prior to the Aug. 1 deadline, but obviously the Phillies did not like any of the offers they received. The team can make him a qualifying offer after the season to recoup a supplemental first round draft pick should he sign elsewhere as a free agent.

With Hellickson off the board, the top starting pitcher waiver trade candidates figure to be White Sox righty James Shields and Twins righty Ervin Santana, though Minnesota doesn't seem eager to trade Santana. Shields hasn't pitched all that well and may not draw much interest.

As a reminder, all 40-man roster players must pass through trade waivers to be traded after the deadline. If a player is claimed, he can only be traded to the team that claims him. If he goes unclaimed, he can be traded anywhere.

The deadline to acquire a player and have him be eligible for the postseason roster is 11:59 p.m. ET on Aug. 31, so expect to see a flurry of smaller trades this week as teams fine-tune their rosters for the stretch run.
