Joe Mauer spoils Anibal Sanchez's no-no with one out in ninth
Detroit's Anibal Sanchez came within two outs of pitching a no-hitter on Friday night, but the Twins' Joe Mauer messed up the plan.
Sanchez did, however, pick up the complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 6-0 Detroit victory.
On the night, Sanchez struck out 12 and walked three. Of his 130 pitches, 85 went for strikes. Prior to walking Eduardo Escobar with one out in the eighth, Sanchez had set down 18 batters in a row.
Sanchez previously threw a no-hitter in 2006 as a member of the Marlins. Friday night's gem turned out to be the fourth one-hitter of his career. On the season, Sanchez now has a 2.38 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings.
