Joe Torre: MLB 'very close' to finalizing replay system
MLB exec Joe Torre tells WFAN that the finishing touches are being put on expanded replay.
Joe Torre, MLB's vice president of operations, told WFAN on Thursday that baseball is "very close" to finalizing a system for expanded replay -- a system that may be in place in time for the 2014 season. "We’re very close," Torre told hosts Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts. "We just still have to figure out what the process is going to be and what the trigger is going to be for sure."
As previously noted in this space, the new system, which is on the agenda for the November owners' meetings, will involve "managerial challenges" in a manner similar to what's in place in the NFL. On that wrinkle, Torre remarked, "Not that initially I was crazy about that, but if you think of all the other options, that seems to be a reasonable way to do it."
