Jose Iglesias day to day with bilateral shin splits
Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias had to leave Wednesday's game with a leg problem.
Shortstop Jose Iglesias left Wednesday night's game with bilateral shin splits, the Tigers announced. He is listed as day to day. Detroit has a scheduled off-day on Thursday, so he'll get at least one day to rest.
Iglesias, 23, appeared to come up lame while running out (and beating) a potential double play ball in the fourth inning. He remained in the game initially before leaving after the top of the fifth.
In 93 total games coming into Wednesday, Iglesias was hitting .318/.365/.399 (107 OPS+) with two home runs and four stolen bases. He is hitting .292 in 30 games with the Tigers after being acquired from the Red Sox in a three-team trade at the deadline.
Despite his surprising production this season, Iglesias isn't expected to provide much offense in the long-term. He is a world-class defender at shortstop though, and that more than makes up for his offensive shortcomings.
