Joshua Jones, ailing fan who Matt Kemp befriended, has died
Remember the two Matt Kemp videos where he made the day of an ailing young fan? Unfortunately, that fan -- Joshua Jones -- has died.
Joshua Jones has been claimed by brain cancer at the age of 19 (MLB.com).
Jones has no connection to baseball other than that he was part of two of the most heart-warming videos this season.
Here's the first one, which came in AT&T Park. Jones' father has since said all they wanted was for Matt Kemp to give them a ball. He went above and beyond that -- and note, he didn't know anyone was recording this:
A bit later, Kemp flew Jones and his family from Oakland to a Dodgers game, where this happened:
It's a real shame what happened to Jones at such a young age, just as it is when a disease ends anyone's life prematurely. Thanks to Kemp, though, Jones had a few major bright spots in his last few months. It's surely a small bit of solace to the Jones family, but still a bit of solace nonetheless.
