Jurickson Profar joins Netherlands for WBC Championship Round
Rangers prospect Jurickson Profar will join Netherlands for World Baseball Classic Championship Round.
The Netherlands is getting some help for the World Baseball Classic Championship Round this coming weekend:
Profar, 20, said on Monday he would join the Netherlands in the WBC if given the opportunity. The shortstop decided to remain in spring training with the Rangers in an effort to win a big league job, but now he'll only be away from the team for about six days.
Profar is baseball's consensus top prospect, but with Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre entrenched on the infield, his best chance to make the team will be as a utility man. The switch-hitter is 8-for-36 (.222) with seven walks and ten strikeouts in Cactus League play. He'll likely play second base for the Netherlands in deference to Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons.
