Kendrys Morales yet another hitter on Yankees' radar
The Yankees are casting a wide net which now includes Kendrys Morales.
In addition to Shin-Soo Choo, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran and Stephen Drew among position players, the Yankees are weighing a run at Morales, who hit 23 home runs with 80 RBI and a .277 batting average in Seattle.
The Yankees have positive reports about his clubhouse presence, and could see using him at DH and first base. The Yankees' scouts suggest he can play first base well.
Morales would give them two switching-hitting first basemen. Mark Teixeira is returning from a wrist injury that wrecked his season.
The incumbent Mariners are interested in retaining Morales and offered him the $14.1-million qualifying offer, which he turned down.
