Mark Teixeira to miss a few days with mild lat strain
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is going to miss around three to four days with a mild lat strain.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi just told the local media the following information about first baseman Mark Teixeira:
Mark Teixeira out of lineup with mild strain of lat on lower left side. Girardi believes he is out 3-4 days but mild enough to avoid DL.— Sweeny Murti (@YankeesWFAN) July 21, 2014
Teixeira has dealt with some wrist and hamstring injuries this season, but when he's been on the field he's been the Yankees' best power source. He's hitting .231/.330/.443 (114 OPS+) with 17 homers and 48 RBI in 76 games. No other Yankee has more than 10 homers.
Kelly Johnson will get the start at first base with Teixeira out Monday while Zelous Wheeler is playing third. Expect a similar setup as long as Teixeira is out.
After sweeping the Reds in three games, the Yankees trail the Orioles by just three games in the AL East, entering a four-game series against the Rangers, who have the worst record in baseball.
