Matt Cain to visit Dr. James Andrews about his ailing elbow
Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain is going to visit with Dr. James Andrews regarding his injured elbow.
Cain, 29, was placed on the disabled list July 21, retroactive to July 11, due to ongoing elbow issues. He hasn't performed well at all this season, going 2-7 with a 4.18 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 15 starts -- this coming off a down year in 2013. He admitted in early July he's been pitching through pain in his elbow this season.
Now, pump the brakes on the freak out here, Giants fans. Visits to Dr. Andrews don't always end with Tommy John surgery. He often recommends every possible path to avoiding surgery. Just repeat after me: This is just a visit ... this is just a visit ... this is just a visit.
Cain's in the fifth year of an eight-year, $139.75 million deal that also includes a club option for 2018.
