Matt Kemp won't be picking Bryce Harper for Home Run Derby
Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp, captain of the NL's Home Run Derby squad, says he won't be picking Nationals rookie Bryce Harper to participate.
As captain, Kemp is tasked with choosing NL sluggers for the Derby, and despite a groundswell of public support for Harper, Kemp's not biting. "It's not because he's a rookie. It's just that there are other guys out there that are capable,'' Kemp told Jorge L. Ortiz of USA Today. "I'm not saying he wouldn't do a good job in the Home Run Derby. He's going to have plenty of time to participate in many Home Run Derbies. Just not this year. Nothing against him. I love watching him play.''
Kemp isn't otherwise tipping his hand, other than to say he'll be one of the participants in the Derby and that his team is already chosen. Kemp also implied that first-half power stats were key to his decision process.
My best guess as to the NL team? Right now, I'll wager it's Kemp, Ryan Braun, Carlos Beltran and Giancarlo Stanton.
So two questions, readers ... Should Harper be on the Derby team? And who do you think will be on the NL team in addition to Kemp?
