As expected, the Mets have placed ace right-hander Matt Harvey on the 15-day DL. He was diagnosed with a partially torn elbow ligament on Monday and may require Tommy John surgery.

Harvey, 24, went 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA (159 ERA+), 0.93 WHIP and 6.16 K/BB in 178 1/3 innings across 26 starts before the injury. That performance had him firmly in the NL Cy Young race. He could still finish in the top five of the voting even if he misses the remainder of the season.

The Mets recalled catcher Anthony Recker and outfielder Matt den Dekker in corresponding roster moves. Outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck were traded to the Pirates earlier on Tuesday.
