Monday night's series opener between the Mets and Cardinals at Citi Field was rained out due to a severe thunderstorm in New York. There was some pretty heavy thunder and lightning for a few hours.

During the storm the Empire State Building in Manhattan was hit by lightning, but not in the antenna. It was hit right in the side of the building. Check it out:

Thankfully there were no injuries or major damage.

Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard, who goes by the nickname Thor, wants you to know it wasn't his fault the Empire State Building took that direct hit Monday:

I do enjoy that Syndergaard has embraced the Thor nickname. He recently walked around New York in a Thor costume to say hello to fans, for example.

Some players have nicknames and it's just that, a nickname. Matt Harvey is the Dark Knight and that's just a media/headline thing. Syndergaard is running with the Thor personality.
