Mets to place Bartolo Colon on bereavement list
Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon is in the Dominican Republic visiting his ailing mother.
Mets manager Terry Collins says the mother of right-hander Bartolo Colon is "extremely ill," and, as ESPN New York's Adam Rubin writes, the team on Tuesday will place Colon on the bereavement list so that he can be with family in the Dominican Republic. Carlos Torres made Colon's scheduled start against the Cubs on Monday (GameTracker).
This season, Colon, age 41, has pitched to a 3.85 ERA (92 ERA+) and outstanding 5.95 K/BB ratio in 161 1/3 innings of work. Signed to a two-year, $20-million contract, Colon has been the subject of recent trade rumors.
