Michael Pineda to start for Yankees against Orioles on Wednesday
Right-hander Michael Pineda's return from the DL is finally in sight. He'll start for the Yankees against Baltimore this week.
Here's some good news for the battered Yankees rotation: Right-hander Michael Pineda is slated to come off the DL on Wednesday and start against the first-place Orioles. As MLB.com's Bryan Hoch writes, the team had originally scheduled Pineda to make a third minor-league rehab start, but now they've decided it's not necessary.
This season, Pineda, who's still just 25 years of age, has pitched to a 1.83 ERA and 5.00 K/BB ratio in four starts, but he's been sidelined since April 23 with shoulder inflammation.
After being acquired from the Mariners, Pineda missed the entire 2012 and 2013 seasons after undergoing labrum surgery. While he's a big theoretical upgrade for the Yankees, it remains to be seen whether he can stay healthy on an extended basis.
