MLB injuries, news and rumors roundup for April 12

Saturday brought us lots of great game action, including a few walk-off wins and the Brewers winning their eighth-straight game. What about all the news of the day? It's all rounded up below.


Athletics: Sam Fuld has been designated for assignment (

Giants: Dontrelle Willis has been activated for the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies, the Grizzlies announced.

Rangers: They acquired pitcher Hector Noesi from the Mariners in exchange for cash considerations (Jon Heyman).


Blue Jays: Manager John Gibbons told reporters that both Jose Reyes and Casey Janssen are ready to begin their minor-league rehab assignments (John Lott).

Brewers: Reliever Brandon Kintzler was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained right rotator cuff, retroactive to April 9, the club announced. As a corresponding move, they activated reliever Rob Wooten.

Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw is said to be making progress but there's still no timetable for his return (

Indians: Jason Giambi (rib) began his rehab assignment Saturday night.

Mariners: Taijuan Walker (shoulder) has been moved to Triple-A in his rehab stint. He could join the club very soon (Tacoma News Tribune).

Marlins: Rafael Furcal (hamstring) will begin his rehab assignment Monday (

Nationals: Ryan Zimmerman is out 4-6 weeks with a thumb fracture. Also, Denard Span was placed on the 7-day concussion DL.

Padres: Cameron Maybin (biceps) began his minor-league rehab assignment Satudray and went 1-for-2 with a double.

Phillies: After leaving his last start with soreness in his right groin, A.J. Burnett is still uncertain to make his next start. He had some lingering soreness Saturday ( Also, it sounds like Cole Hamels is on track to return April 22 (

Rangers: The club is leaning toward putting Adrian Beltre (leg issues) on the DL (Anthony Andro). 

Red Sox: Koji Uehara has a shoulder issue.

Reds: Mat Latos had an MRI on his painful forearm/elbow area.

Rockies: Brett Anderson left his start Saturday with a bruised index finger.


Cardinals: General manager John Mozeliak has gotten another contract extension, so he's locked up through 2018.

Cubs: Jose Veras is no longer the primary closer.

Red Sox: According to a report, the Red Sox offered Jon Lester a four-year extension worth between $70M-$80M. Considering what starting pitchers are going for these days, that would represent a low-ball offer.
