MLB injuries, news and rumors roundup for April 23
On the night when Albert Pujols joined the 500 Home Run Club, let's take a look at the injuries, news and rumors.
Tuesday was something of an eventful day in Major League Baseball, as all 30 teams were in action and this guy -- you may have heard of him -- named Albert Pujols hit his 500th career home run. It's kind of a big deal, much like Ron Burgundy was.
Anywho, onto the nightly roundup.
Rangers: Just a 10 days after acquiring him, the club has announced that it has designated Hector Noesi for assignment.
Yankees: David Robertson was officially activated from the disabled list while Vidal Nuno was announced as the new fifth starter in the rotation.
Braves: As it turns out, Mike Minor will actually make one more minor-league rehab start this coming Friday (David O'Brien). It was previously thought Minor would actually return to the Braves' rotation Saturday.
Cardinals: Adam Wainwright left his start Tuesday with a hyperextended knee, but he says he's fine. In fact, he said the following:
“My ACL, MCL, UCL, all those LCLs, QCLs, all the CLs are good." (stltoday.com)
Mariners: James Paxton (lat) is out until late May "at the earliest" and Taijuan Walker (shoulder) is going to meet with a Doctor on Wednesday (seattletimes.com).
Orioles: Manny Machado is ready to begin his minor-league rehab assignment (Orioles.com).
Rangers: Shin-Soo Choo is going to have an MRI on his ankle injury (ESPN Dallas). He left Monday's game with it and sat out Tuesday.
Rays: Matt Moore's Tommy John surgery was successful Tuesday, the club announced.
Red Sox: Shane Victorino (hamstring) is likely to be activated from the DL Wednesday (Sean McAdam).
MLB/Pirates/Brewers: Suspensions were handed down for the Brewers-Pirates brawl on Sunday.
Ryan Dempster: He's at least sitting out this season, if not totally retired and now, MLB Network has announced that he's joined the network as in-studio talent.
Padres: The club is in "active discussions" regarding trading catcher Nick Hundley, per utsandiego.com.
Red Sox: "Every effort" is going to be made by the club to keep Jon Lester, who is a free agent after the season (Pete Abraham). Remember, the Red Sox lowballed Lester and talks have been stopped until after the season regarding an extension.
