The pitching injuries continued to mount on Monday, as two more young starters were confirmed to need Tommy John surgery. Here is a recap of the day's major baseball news.

Philadelphia Phillies : Acquired C Koyie Hill from the Washington Nationals for a player to named later or cash considerations, the team announced.

Baltimore Orioles : 3B Manny Machado (knee surgery) is unsure if he will be ready in time for opening day.

San Diego Padres : 3B Chase Headley (calf) will make his spring debut on Thursday (MLB.com) ... An MRI showed no ligament damage in RHP Joe Wieland 's elbow. It was feared he would need a second Tommy John surgery. (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Kansas City Royals : SS Alcides Escobar (shoulder soreness) was given a cortisone shot and will not return to the lineup until Saturday (Kansas City Star) ... 2B Omar Infante was scratched from Monday's game with a sore right elbow. He is day-to-day. (Kansas City Star)

Tigers: SS Jose Iglesias has a stress fracture in each leg. There is no timetable for his return but he hopes to play in 2014 ... RHP Anibal Sanchez was scratched from Monday's start with "right posterior shoulder inflammation" ... OF Rajai Davis was also scratched from Monday's game with a tight hamstring and is day-to-day. Opening day starters: RHP Justin Verlander (Tigers) RHP Chris Tillman (Orioles), RHP Scott Feldman ( Houston Astros ) and LHP Cliff Lee (Phillies) will all get the nod in their team's first game of the season.
