Astros: Designated LHP Raul Valdes for assignment, the team announced. LHP Darin Downs was called up in a corresponding move.

Athletics: Claimed OF Nick Buss off waivers from the Dodgers, the team announced. He was optioned to Triple-A.

Mariners: Optioned OF Abe Almonte to Triple-A, the team announced. They are expected to recall OF James Jones prior to their next game.

Rays: Designated RHP Heath Bell for assignment and called up RHP Nate Karns.

INJURY UPDATES

Astros: RHP Scott Feldman (biceps) will return to the rotation on Friday (Houston Chronicle).

Giants: Placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day DL with a cut finger.

Mets: OF Eric Young Jr. has a bruised cheek bone after being hit in the face by a ball that ricocheted off the cage during batting practice, the team announced. He passed a concussion test.

Nationals: RHP Doug Fister (lat) will make his season debut on Friday, the team announced.
