MLB Signings: Twins reportedly agree to terms with catcher Jason Castro
The former Astro has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with Minnesota
According to multiple reports, the Twins and free agent catcher Jason Castro have agreed to terms of a contract. Fox's Ken Rosenthal reports that the deal will pay more than $24 million over three years. Two other sources peg the exact value at $24.5 million.
Castro, 29, is coming off a 2016 season for the Astros in which he batted .210/.307/.377 (88 OPS+) with 11 home runs in 113 games. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 93 across parts of six big-league seasons. In 2013, Castro made the All-Star team. Coming into the offseason, we ranked Castro No. 28 on our free agent tracker.
The Twins were left in need of a catcher after Kurt Suzuki became a free agent after three seasons in Minnesota. As for the Astros, their recent trade for Brian McCann means they have a replacement for Castro already on the roster.
