RUMORS & SPECULATION
Oakland Athletics : LHP Tommy Milone asked for a trade after being sent down earlier this month. The team is likely to hold onto him for depth ... Seattle Mariners IF Nick Franklin is a "top target" as they look for upgrades at second base. (San Francisco Chronicle)
Atlanta Braves : Likely to add bullpen and bench help at the trade deadline. (MLB.com)
St. Louis Cardinals : Boston Red Sox RHP Jake Peavy is on the "back burner" for now. (Boston Globe)
San Francisco Giants : Signed 2B Dan Uggla to a minor league contract.
Philadelphia Phillies : LHP Cliff Lee was rusty in his return from the disabled list. The team might be better off holding on to him at the trade deadline and letting him make more starts before swinging an August trade .... telling teams that LHP Cole Hamels is not available. (ESPN)
Kansas City Royals : Considering a trade for Texas Rangers OF Alex Rios (Jon Heyman) ... GM Dayton Moore said he is not planning to sell before the deadline. “I’m not going to give up on our team ... We need the group of players we have to produce. We believe they will,” he said. (Fox Sports)
Minnesota Twins : GM Terry Ryan indicated the team is prepared to sell. “We’re in a tough spot right now and we’ve been in a tough spot for four years, so you have to listen. Los Angeles Angels : Signed C John Buck to a minor league contract, the team announced.
Toronto Blue Jays : Designated former closer RHP Sergio Santos for assignment.
Cleveland Indians : SS Asdrubal Cabrera left Monday's game with lower back spasms, the team announced.
Phillies: Designated OF Tony Gwynn Jr. for assignment, the club announced. The move cleared a spot on the roster for Lee.
Colorado Rockies : Designated RHP Jair Jurrjens for assignment, the team announced.
Cardinals: RHP Michael Wacha (shoulder) could begin throwing in two weeks after tests showed improvement. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
Mariners: LHP Roenis Elias left Monday's start with cramping in his forearm, the team announced.
Rockies: Placed 1B Justin Morneau on the 15-day DL with a neck injury.
