Free agent first baseman/DH Kendrys Morales reached agreement with the Twins, CBSSports.com has learned.

Terms aren't known.

The Twins, a mystery team if there ever was one, came out of nowhere in recent days to lure Morales after it had only been known that the Brewers, Mariners, Rangers and Yankees had shown interest.

Morales had a rough free agency because a draft pick had been attached to his signing until this week's draft. The Twins won't have to surrender a pick due to the timing of the signing. Morales also will be an unencumbered free agent after the year since he won't have played a full year for the Twins.

Minnesota is aiming to beef up its production as it looks to make a run in the tight AL Central division. Morales could provide an upgrade in offensive production out of the first base/DH positions, where the combined OPS for the team is .740.

Morales, who has had had success in Minnesota, has 23 home runs, 80 RBI and a .277 batting average for the Mariners last year.
