Nationals activate Stephen Strasburg off 15-day DL

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg has been activated off the 15-day DL and will start on Sunday, the Nationals announced. He missed a little more than two weeks with a lat strain.

Strasburg, 24, went 3-5 with a 2.54 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 74 1/3 innings spread across a dozen starts before hitting the DL. Although his strikeout rate (8.8 K/9) is down a touch from last season, the first overall pick in the 2009 draft is still limiting walks (2.5 BB/9) and getting a career-high number of ground balls (52.3 percent).

To clear room on the 25-man roster, Washington optioned left-hander Xavier Cedeno to Triple-A. The 26-year-old appeared in only two games with the Nats, retiring four of six batters faced.
