Nationals players speak out in favor of 'The Wave'
A trio of Nationals players have taken to Twitter to speak out in favor of ballpark staple 'The Wave.'
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the ballpark phenomenon known as "The Wave." It's cheesy and distracting, especially since it has a tendency to pop up at important moments. I can't even begin to count how many times times that I've seen the wave break out while there were men on base in close games.
Some people like the wave, though, and that's totally cool. It's just not my thing. In the span of about a half hour on Tuesday afternoon, a trio of Nationals players took to Twitter to defend the wave:
Wave on DC, wave on.— Ian Desmond (@IanDesmond20) April 30, 2013
As a player I could care less if people do the wave. And I think it is ridiculous if fans are being ejected for doing the wave.— Ryan Mattheus (@RyanMattheus) April 30, 2013
Well, maybe it's a stretch to say reliever Ryan Mattheus defended the wave. He seems indifferent more than anything.
There apparently was a wave-related dust-up at Nationals Park over the weekend, which led to some fans being ejected, according to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. They weren't ejected for doing the wave, however. There was just an argument between wave-lovers and wave-haters that led to some getting the boot. I guess that's what led to Tuesday's lovefest on Twitter.
There is no stopping the wave, really. Way too many people enjoy it. People like me who don't like it just learn to live with it. The wave thing should never result in fans being ejected from the game, though. There's no reason to be obnoxious in your efforts to either start or end the thing. Just let it be.
