Nick MarkakisOrioles outfielder Nick Markakis will undergo surgery on Friday morning to remove a broken hamate bone in his right wrist. He's expected to miss the next three to four weeks.

MASN's Roch Kubatko reports that Markakis originally injured the wrist 10 days ago while sliding and then fully broke it during an at-bat on Tuesday.

On the season, Markakis is hitting .256/.333/.452 with eight home runs and 13 doubles.

It's not immediately certain who will replace him on the roster and in the lineup, although it's possible that veteran outfielder Lew Ford could be called up. Kubatko also notes that GM Dan Duquette is open to finding a solution from outside the organization.
